On April 23, Pitt students and others gathered on the Cathedral of Learning lawn near Heinz Chapel to show
their support for
the Hokies of
Virginia Tech. A few days earlier at VT, a senseless mass shooting had wounded many and taken the lives of 32 students and
faculty on the Blacksburg, Va., campus. As dusk fell, the Pitt community gathered in a memorial tribute. Many wore black or Virginia Tech’s colors of orange and maroon. Soon, the night closed in, but a
mass of bright
candles drove back
