Problems with dopamine, a neurotransmitter in the brain, are linked to diseases like schizophrenia, Parkinson’s, and drug addiction. Pitt scientist Gonzalo E. Torres focuses his research on learning more about the role that dopamine plays in these illnesses. This fall, his efforts were recognized with the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, an accolade that he received from the President at a White House ceremony. Torres is an assistant professor of neurobiology in the School of Medicine.
