Music Everywhere

Written by Cara J. Hayden

Music scores, audio recordings, letters, and other materials that relate to American music are currently housed in multiple archives around the globe. Pitt’s Center for American Music is leading an effort to link all of these materials in one electronic database. This spring, specialists in music and information technology are convening at Pitt to brainstorm ways to create a new, comprehensive reference tool for the study of American music and history. The project is being supported by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which has predicted that the resulting digital music tool “will serve as a model for libraries across the nation.”
