Math Master

Written by Cara J. Hayden

Parsing out the mathematics of “gravitational perturbations” and “radiating electromagnetic dipoles” are just some of the mind-

bending problems that Timothy M. Adamo gets excited about. He wants others to get excited about them, too. This fall the recent Pitt graduate—who earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics, physics, and psychology—will attend the University of Oxford in England to pursue his PhD and ultimately a teaching career. His studies will be supported by the University Clarendon Fund Award and the Dervorguilla Scholarship. “A distinguishing feature of Adamo is his desire to make math interesting for other people,” says Alec Stewart, Pitt Honors College dean. “He articulates clearly to all who will listen that mathematics has much to say about many areas outside of formal mathematics.”
